What is Induction forging?

Induction forging is a process in which an induction heating system preheats metals, and shapes that metal using a press. The applications for induction forging vary greatly, but before you get started assessing your applications, it’s helpful to have a good understanding of the process.

Are there advantages to using Induction Forging?

Induction forging is an energy-efficient process. This is a result of the heat being generated within the component as opposed to around it. The transfer of heat and energy is made much more efficient because the induction heating system only heats the work piece, not the atmosphere surrounding it.

There are three types of forging that Interpower Induction specializes in – bar heating, billet heating and bar end heating.

Bar Heating & Bar End Heating

Interpower builds quality induction heating machines to meet or exceed bar heating solutions to fit the specific needs of your forging project challenges.

Advantages include:

  • Advanced PLC control using Zone Control Technology
  • Quick release connections for power and water
  • Heavy-duty construction for tough forging conditions
  • Material handling options
  • Bar end heaters with solenoid coil, multi stations, skid coil or choval coil for horizontal/vertical upsetting, swaging, thread rolling, piecing, and heading application

Billet Heating

Interpower Induction billet heaters are designed to heat any dimension of billets and slugs in materials as diverse as stainless steel, copper, aluminum, titanium and brass.

Power ranges vary from 6 kW up to several MW, at frequencies of 500 Hz – 50 kHz. All our billet heaters feature Interpower Induction power converters, which are available in IGBT transistor versions. Our billet heaters can be fitted with a range of tipper, loader, feeder, extractor and other options.
